Education

MSc of Biology 2001 at Linköping University, Sweden.
PhD of Ecology 2007 at Linköping University, Sweden.

Research interest

My research interest is plant ecology in a wide sense, and my research deals with the question "what environmental circumstances lead to which expressed response of the plants, and what are the environmental limits for that response to be expressed". My research projects involve species that occur as weeds, species that are used as crops, and species that belong exclusively to the natural environment.

Engagement in teaching

I am interested in teaching, and have mainly been teaching at Universities (Wolaita Sodo University in Ethiopia, Linköping University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), but my experiences include also elementary school pupils on week-long work-place visits, supervision of high school students during project work and field trips with the public. My teaching experience includes all possible group sizes, from supervision of individuals to lectures with hundreds of students. I strive to encourage students in their own learning about the subject and train them to think critically about information they get. To improve my teaching skills, I have taken courses in pedagogy and communication, and in 2005 I had the privilege to be one of 20 participating university teachers, from a broad range of subjects, coming together for an intense summer seminar organized by Swedish council for higher education, aiming at improving our pedagogic skills as a part of developing the Swedish higher education further.
